As part of its campaign of war mongering against the Chinese government, the USA and some toady governments, including Canada, have announced what they call a “diplomatic boycott” of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. This is in itself the emptiest of empty gestures. Basically, we are not sending a diplomatic representative if we are invited to, and we were not going to be invited.
It will have no effect on the games. All the athletes will show up and do their thing. Medals will be handed out.
It is depressing that Canada went along with this. It is really hard for Prince Justin to come up with anything after the Meng Wangzhou arrest that could make Canada look even worse in the eyes of the world, but he is trying. Why this need to suck-hole to the USA so ardently?
The media in Canada have been cranking up a hate-on for China just as obsessively as the USA media has been indoctrinating its population. I think I have already written enough about the extreme danger and pointlessness of goading the Chinese. Propaganda always works and the populations are primed for aggressive behaviour against China.
Some Canadian papers are reporting that the population polls 54% in favour of a real boycott with China. Canadians are big winter sports people, so getting so many people to forgo participation is an impressive though inglorious feat. It seems there is some danger that this might come to pass.
It is certain that the games will go ahead regardless of any kind of boycott. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) seems contemptuous of this politicization of the olympics.
It seems the only countries doing this are the ‘five eyes’ nations of the core Anglo-Saxon world; Australia, New Zealand, and the U.K. are also disgracing themselves. These countries do not seem to be really independent; the media indoctrination campaign seems limited to them. The rest of the world thinks we are all idiots.
In this I am starting to see the beginnings of a good idea. The whole world is becoming increasingly fed up and alarmed by the USA. Once, the USA was reasonably stable and able to actually run the world. It is no longer able to do so but keeps trying. It is becoming increasingly erratic and aggressive.
This behaviour of the Americans is making the world a dangerous place. It is increasing the danger of a nuclear exchange. Something needs to be done to send a message to the American public in a way that can get through the alternate reality field.
A boycott of American sports organizations and persons could do the job. I mean a real boycott, with the people required to realize the events not turning up. No one comes to the Americans games at home, nobody invites them to their parties abroad.
It could be extended to all kinds of cultural events. It would remain in place until the USA ends its aggressive foreign policy and sends its armed forces home.
There could not be a worthier target for something like this. The USA has a long history of politicizing sports. It boycotted the 1980 Moscow summer olympics because of the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan. No other countries of any significance went along with this.
US teams are noted for their lack of sportsmanship, taking a ‘win at all costs’ approach to whatever they enter. There are plenty of examples of them rigging contests whenever they could. The officiating can get pretty bad when international events are held on American territory.
For years they drove this spurious drug doping scandal against the Russian international teams, ruining the careers of many Russian athletes. It seems IOC is now tired of this and is curbing the international anti-doping agency, WADA, which seems to be under too much American influence.
Despite widespread impatience with American behaviour, such a boycott would be hard to mount. It would become a lot easier if the US and its toady allies staged a real boycott of Beijing. Or, if they started a real war.
It would have to come out of a grass roots type of movement among athletes, local sports organizations, and other political advocacy groups. Antiwar and Anti-Imperialism groups could lend their aid. Governments would not initiate anything like this but would respond to pressure from below.
Many would have ethical objections to boycotts and ostracism of sovereign countries. Yet we have examples of boycott campaigns against countries, largely organized through civil society organizations. One was credited with bringing down the South African apartheid government. One against Israel has been less effective, but has somewhat constrained the Israelis treatment of Palestinians.
Boycotts of sports and cultural events could have some effect, even against the mighty USA. Uncle Sam would have a lot of power to block an economic boycott, but would have a hard time dealing with something that was purely social. He is nowhere near as mighty as he was, and is rapidly getting less mighty.
As for Canada and the other ‘eyes’, being also subjects of such a boycott would help to open the public’s eyes. It should not be so hard for Canada to maintain some distance diplomatically from the USA, even if we have them on our borders. We managed it in the time of Prince Justin’s Daddy.
The thing is, this obsession of core English speaking countries that it is supposed to be running the world is not going to end well. Anything that induces them to get off it would be very good thing for all the world.
